(Circa 1930) Mtn. Hill Schoolhouse
and to engage in cultural,
educational and philanthropic
ideals."
Our Vision is
1. To restore and preserve the historic
schoolhouse built in 1930 as one of Harris County's most historically
significant buildings.
- To acquire both state
and federal his
toric landmark status
To preserve an important
part of Harris County's unique heritage
To promote historic
preservation and tourism
To provide an office for
the Harris County Trust for Historic Preservation and the Mountain
Hill Schoolhouse Foundation, Inc.
2. To operate and maintain the schoolhouse
as a public community center for educational, cultural, recreational and
social activities.
- To provide meeting
facilities... for various activities such as scouting, senior
programs, civic and community clubs.
- To accommodate community
services, such as a polling place, emergency shelter and disaster
assistance distribution point for the
area.
3. To promote interests in the fine arts and
the performing arts as a Regional Cultural Arts Center.
- To house a museum
exhibiting a 1930 class room and a railroad collection.
- To provide a performing
arts facility in the 436 seat, sloped floor auditorium promoting
theater, music and dance.
4. To house a branch of the Tri-County
Regional Library and Harris County Archives.
- To provide service for
the fast growing southwest section of Harris County
- To serve as an extended
educational resource for the neighboring elementary school and the
entire
community.
